Five
new editions by Robert
Rauschenberg will be on view at Gemini G.E.L. at
Joni Moisant Weyl from June 4 through August 16, 1996.
Entitled Speculations, these bold and oclorful
new prints demonstrate the artist's continued exploration
of new ways to incorporate his own photography into
printmaking. The prints were made in the Los Angeles-based
artists' workshop, Gemini G.E.L., where Rauschenberg
traveled to with a selection of color photographs printed
on a Iris printer in his Captiva, Florida studio. To
create the master for each of the five new editions,
he cut the photographs into various shapes and sizes.
Using a paint brush, he then applied water to paper
in the area where he wanted the imagery, laid the iris
prints onto the wet paper and put both through the litho
press to transfer the imagery. The Gemini workshop made
color separations from the five masters which were used
in screenprinting the editions.
